5 Places to Find Friends as an Adult
Adult Friendships are crucial
By Marlene Wagner
As a Personal Development Coach working with single and married women, lack of quality friendships falls equally across both spectrums.
When did everything get so hard?
I pondered and sat on this question for several days and realized I’d never thought so much about how this has happened as I always focused on how to help women find and make friends.
Loneliness and isolation is a common problem in our society. Why is this? How did this happen?
When did everything get so hard?
Somewhere along the way, we grew up. Life started getting filled with responsibilities and plans for the future.
While much of this is exciting, we start laying aside our childhood and unintentionally putting aside our innate ability to make friends easily.
Think back to when a trip to the playground ended in a ‘new best friend’ after 20 minutes of sharing the swings with a stranger.
Now ask yourself, when was the last time you connected that quickly with someone new?
Adult friendships are crucial, not just to our mental well-being but to our physical health as well.
It’s been proven that having friends leads to less stress, less chance of heart disease, and longer life.
But where do we find these new friends?
Compiling the information to write this article, I realized I used most of these suggestions in my #1 Amazon Best Seller, Attract Love at Any Age.
It’s a book written for women who are single again to find a healthy, lasting, loving relationship with the right man for them.
If you are single and haven’t read the book, here is a bonus while looking for a fun gal pal, you can also be looking for your Mr. Right.
Most married women seek connections to others with a common interest and ultimately form solid friendships.
Try an App
There are apps that work much like dating apps, with one very significant difference. Here the goal is to find someone with like interests you may want to befriend.
A quick swipe of your finger starts a conversation, leading to a connection and, eventually, friendship.
Try Meetup Groups
Are you looking for some fun group activities in your area? Meetup.com is easy to use on your computer, tablet, or phone.
Search the Meetup Groups for events of interest to you. You’ll find a variety of groups who like to engage in the activities you’ve searched.
Meetup Groups are a great way to meet many people at the same time and have the opportunity to meet several interesting people all at one time.
You might consider forming your own Meetup Group on your particular interest and inviting others into your group.
Meetup Groups are one of my favorite ways to meet like-minded people.
Learn Something New
Signing up for a class allows you to indulge in a new interest while meeting others there to learn.
Always wanted to cook gourmet dinners? Been thinking about taking flying lessons?
Whatever interests you, this is a great way to meet new people and has the potential for forming lasting lifetime friendships.
Grab a Book
Your local library or independent bookstore is a great place to indulge a love of reading while also getting to know someone new.
Book clubs stimulate you intellectually and introduce you to community members who share a love for the written word.
Book clubs are in abundance, and not difficult to find the subjects or genres of your choice.
Take a Walk with a Furry Friend
Why not explore more than your own backyard if you have a dog? By taking Fido to your local dog park, you’ll have an opportunity to meet other dog lovers.
At the same time, give your faithful friend a chance for a bit of puppy socialization.
If you don’t have a dog borrow one from your friends that have dogs or volunteer at animal shelters.
It’s a win all around!
Be Bold and Try Something New
Meeting people doesn’t have to be complicated. Opportunities genuinely are everywhere.
I hope this list has your creative juices geared up. Make a list of more ways to help you meet others who share your interests.
Let me know which ones on the list resonated with you and what the experience was on the ones you’ve chosen to try.
I have more to share on this topic over the next few weeks.
If you have any particular challenges, let me know. I’ll include it in my content.
Starting today, make yourself a priority and begin living your best life.
But before we go, always remember to
Be true to your magnificent self,
Connect with me!! I’d love to hear from you.
