Getting Organized to Better Plan Your Day

A System to Easily Achieve Your Specific Goals

By Marlene Wagner

We are about to enter the busiest time of the year, starting with Halloween and Thanksgiving, and Christmas all coming on the heels of each other too quickly.

We find ourselves gripped with anxiety, wondering how we will get it all done, adding all the extra activities to a daily schedule that’s already full and hard to manage.

We are all in the same boat too much to do every day. Some of us are highly organized, and some fly by the seat of their pants every day.

Somehow it always got done when it was all over. We may end up exhausted, but we still managed to have enjoyed it all and had fun.

To be most productive, it is important to get organized.

It means creating a system where you can easily find what you need when you need it and do it when it needs to be done.

I’m here to help you do that.

Remember that a system like the one I’m about to present is not just for the busy holiday season.

It can help you throughout the year with anything and everything to manage and be more productive.

It also means setting aside time for the tasks that are most important to you at the time.

A little bit of organization can go a long way in helping you achieve your goals.

You can organize your tasks and responsibilities in several ways, and we’ve included some below to help you get started.

Establish the Goal

Is it a big goal or a short-term goal? Is the goal objective a few days, weeks, or months? Or is it a six-month or a one-year plan?

This system works best for the short-term goal but most certainly for the long-term goal.

I’ll share my go-to system with you every time I have a project, in addition to my regular daily regimen.

Entering the holidays, you may host dinner or entertainment at home. I use this system every time I plan on guests in my house.

Setting up a system for goals can help you stay focused and productive. I recommend using a particular notebook or planner.

Organizing your work into manageable tasks is easier when you set specific written goals with steps and a timeline.

Create short- and long-term goals to keep yourself on track!

Track Your Progress

Tracking your progress is a great way to ensure you accomplish your goals in the planned timeframe. I find a planner the best and cover more on it later.

It’s also a perfect way to visually see what’s been done and what to do next to motivate yourself.

When you see how much progress you’ve made, it’s much easier to keep going!

You can also use progress tracking to help you determine what times of the day and week you are the most productive.

Schedule your most important tasks for those times.

Using a planner

A planner is an excellent way to assess the efficiency of your work schedule.

You can use a planner to track your daily, weekly, and monthly goals and activities most efficiently.

You’re more likely to achieve your objectives and recall essential details when you record what has been done and what is coming up.

There are many types of planners. Some planners have a daily space, while others are weekly or monthly.

Think about what kind of planner would best suit you and your work. You could also consider using a digital planner or app if you work on your computer often.

Create to-do lists

To keep up productivity throughout the day, try using a to-do list. I’m a big daily list maker when I work on specific goals.

To-do lists are simple yet highly effective lists that may assist you in maintaining focus throughout the day.

Write down important activities on your to-do list and organize them by priority.

For example, you could place what you need to accomplish at the top of your list and what can wait until the next day at the bottom.

Keep a clean environment

A clean environment when working on specific goals is an organized environment.

You should be able to quickly and easily find everything you need and want in an organized workplace.

It helps your workflow be more constant.

You put objects back where they belong, keep personal things separate from work, and straighten your work area every afternoon.

These are all examples of keeping a clean environment. A clean workstation makes staying productive much easier.

Clutter in your workstation is a big distraction. Remove anything from your workplace that you don’t use regularly.

Tidy up your work area at the end of each day and declutter once a week to keep things clean and organized.

Clean up your email

If you’re like most people, your inbox is clogged with messages. Cleaning up your mail keeps it organized and makes it easier to locate important messages.

I believe this is the biggest challenge most of us experience. I make it a point to scan my morning email and take care of the most important.

I do this several times a day and clear all remaining emails in my inbox at the end of the day.

Create labeled folders in your email to manage your messages and organize new emails into their appropriate folders.

Creating folders has been a lifesaver; I’ve used this system for years.

Labeling emails helps you stay on top of replies and keeps important documents together in one location.

In addition to a specific goal, being more organized is to help you work more productively.

When you can focus on your tasks and complete them on time, you feel better about yourself and your work.

Several tips listed here will help you get started with any goal, including a plan to become more organized and productive.

Try one or two at once and see how they work for you. Remember, there is no right way to be organized or work towards a specific goal.

Do what works best for you so that you can achieve your goals.
