Taking Risks Embracing Discomfort

Path to Success for Women in Every Stage of Life

By Marlene Wagner

Whether navigating the single life or enjoying the warmth of a committed relationship, success is within your reach.

The journey may not always be comfortable, but it’s often the discomfort that paves the way for remarkable achievements.

This article explores three essential aspects of risk-taking and personal growth, along with some practical tips for living life fully.

By the end, you’ll understand why taking risks is vital for your success and how to do it confidently.

Develop Healthy Habits

We will start with healthy habits, which are the cornerstone of a successful life. Success begins with the foundation of healthy habits.

Have you ever known of a successful person who spends their days in bed or lives on junk food? Probably not.

Let’s look at your daily routine and make some positive changes.

If you are not an early riser, get in the habit of waking up earlier. The world is filled with opportunities waiting for you in the early hours of the day.

By starting your day early, you’ll have extra time for self-care, planning your day, and setting goals.

However, not everyone’s schedules or biological clocks are the same.

All these recommendations and suggestions can work and be adjusted according to different variables.

Always start your day by eating a nutritious breakfast. Your body is your most valuable asset. Fuel it with a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

Avoid excessive processed foods and sugar, which can drain your energy and hinder your mental focus.

If you don’t already have a regular exercise program, create one.

Physical activity keeps you fit and enhances your mental clarity and emotional well-being.

Incorporate exercise into your daily routine, even if it’s just a brisk walk or a short yoga session.

In addition to physical health, you must prioritize your mental health.

Practice mindfulness, meditation, or deep breathing exercises to reduce stress and enhance emotional resilience.

A healthy mind is better equipped to face discomfort and challenges.

Healthy habits often align with setting clear goals. Define what success means to you, and break down your objectives into smaller, manageable steps.

It will give you a sense of direction and motivation to cultivate those habits that lead to success.

Consider enlisting the support of an accountability buddy—a friend, family member, or mentor to help you stay accountable for your habits.

Sharing your goals and progress with someone you trust can encourage you to stay on track.

Taking Calculated Risks

We take risks every day! Life is a risk. Most of our daily risks don’t feel like risks and, therefore, never given a thought.

We trust the outcome will be okay. We leave the house and safely return. We trust the foods we eat to be safe.

We have seasonal risks. We get our shots and expect to survive the flu and virus season.

I hope this gets you thinking about all the risks we take and take them in stride. Now, we are going to talk about the “calculated” risks.

The calculated risks reside outside our comfort zones. Taking risks can be intimidating, but it’s essential for personal and professional growth.

Whether you’re contemplating a career change or dreaming of a new home, embracing calculated risks is crucial.

Before taking any risk, you’ll want to conduct a thorough risk assessment. Identify potential benefits and drawbacks and assess the likelihood of success.

This analytical approach can help you make informed decisions and reduce unnecessary anxiety.

A career change or transformation is a calculated risk. If you feel unfulfilled in your current job, consider exploring new career opportunities.

It might be uncomfortable to make a career change, but leaping can lead to remarkable growth, satisfaction, and success.

You may be thinking of and looking into a financial offering.

Explore riskier yet potentially more rewarding investments instead of stashing your money away in a savings account.

Starting your own business or investing in stocks can provide financial freedom in the long run.

Relationships bring on risks. In committed relationships, risk-taking can mean opening up emotionally and communicating your desires and needs.

Vulnerability can lead to deeper connections and greater intimacy. Ending relationships is risky. Beginning new relationships is equally tricky.

Many people will think it may fail if I take a risk on this. That’s what’s making it a risk. But failure is not the end of the road. It’s a stepping stone to success.

Embrace failure as an opportunity to learn, adapt, and grow. Many outstanding achievements have been born from multiple failures.

I have had many failures through the years. I’ve had them in every area of my life. Financially, in my career, and relationships.

None killed me. I’m still here and will have more failures. I don’t use the word risk and have labeled my failures differently. I call it redirecting or reinventing.

In 2008, white-collar banking corruption wiped out the mortgage industry and my twenty-five-year successful business. I had to reinvent myself after that.

And reinvent, I did. I relocated to another part of the country, became an author, and started an online business.

I knew nothing about either and had many failures getting to an Amazon best-selling author and continuing to build my online coaching content-creating business.

I had many redirects, but giving up was never an option as long as I could redirect.

Looking back to when my industry imploded, and I was out of business was crushing and devastating for a long time.

Yet now I recognize it was one of my biggest blessings. It was a stepping stone that moved me into an exciting new career.

Surround yourself with a network of individuals with experience in the areas you want to explore.

Seek out mentors who can provide guidance and share their own experiences with risk-taking. Learning from others can help and support you along the way.

Admitting Mistakes and Growing

It’s human nature to make mistakes. Admitting mistakes is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Acknowledging them, however, can be uncomfortable yet incredibly beneficial. A mistake is nothing more than learning what didn’t work.

In business, admitting mistakes shows responsibility and earns respect from colleagues and superiors.

It can also lead to more efficient networking and collaboration.

In personal relationships, admitting mistakes builds trust and strengthens bonds.

It’s a powerful tool for resolving conflicts and nurturing healthy connections.

In both professional and personal relationships, conflict is inevitable.

Learning how to handle conflicts and admitting when you’re wrong can lead to more harmonious interactions and greater trust.

Regularly self-reflect to identify areas where you might have made mistakes or misjudgments.

Self-awareness is the first step toward personal growth and improvement.

Seek feedback from trusted individuals in your life, whether related to your work or personal development.

Constructive criticism can be valuable for identifying areas where you can grow and improve.

Tips for Taking Risks and Living Life Fully

Living your best, most authentic life is about making the most of every moment.

Living life fully requires embracing risk and stepping outside your comfort zone. Modern society tends to value security.

There’s a lot of pressure to get a good education, find a good job, and stay on the path to homeownership, family life, and a secure future.

But there’s more to life than the same old nine-to-five. How will you know what you can do if you don’t break out of the security mold?

Living fully means pushing your potential. It means making your mark on the world.

Here are some tips to help you make friends with risk and live a more intense, rewarding life. Here are four tips to help you navigate this path.

Step Away from Fear

So many people live small lives, too afraid to step out of line and risk doing things differently. Fear often keeps us trapped in our comfort zones.

Decide to step away from fear and worry about the small stuff.

Taking risks doesn’t mean being reckless; it means being prepared to explore new possibilities and grow.

Get Comfortable Outside Your Comfort Zone

Your comfort zone can be stifling and limiting. To reach your full potential, you must venture beyond its boundaries.

Ask yourself where your dreams and goals fit into your life, and take steps to make them a reality.

Commit to Positivity

No one ever achieved anything significant with a negative mindset. It’s easy to find reasons not to do something. There will always be a ready excuse.

Maintaining a positive mindset is essential for achieving success. Focus on your goals and what you truly want from life.

Surround yourself with supportive allies, champions, mentors, and role models who inspire and guide you.

Take Control of Your Risk

You don’t need to dive headfirst into uncertainty. Living life fully is about choosing when and how much to take risks.

It could be pursuing your regular job while exploring new hobbies or entrepreneurial ventures.

Here are additional tips for infusing more intensity into your life.

Embrace a mindset of continuous learning. Challenge yourself to acquire new skills, explore hobbies, or engage in lifelong education.

It keeps your mind active and curious, ensuring you never stop growing.

Traveling to new places and experiencing diverse cultures can broaden your horizons and provide fresh perspectives.

Even if you can’t travel extensively, explore your local surroundings with the same curiosity.

Find opportunities to give back to your community or a cause you’re passionate about.

Acts of kindness and service benefit others and bring a sense of purpose and fulfillment to your life.

Practicing gratitude daily can enhance your overall well-being. Take a moment each day to reflect on what you’re thankful for, no matter how small.

This positivity can fuel your intense approach to life.

Why You Need to Take Risks to Succeed

Taking a risk is scary. Mainly because you have no idea how things will turn out, and there’s always a big chance that things won’t work out at all.

Taking risks is the key to unlocking success. Here’s why it’s essential.

You’ll Miss Out on Opportunities

Every risk opens doors to new opportunities. You may never experience incredible opportunities beyond your comfort zone by avoiding risks.

You’ll Gain Confidence

Confidence is crucial for success. Taking risks, even if they don’t always lead to success, builds trust in your abilities.

Each attempt is a step toward self-discovery and personal growth.

You Learn Lessons

Failure is a valuable teacher. When you take risks, you’ll encounter setbacks, but these experiences will make you wiser and stronger.

Mistakes provide valuable lessons that guide future decisions.

Playing It Safe Is Doing Nothing

Success rarely comes to those who stay within their comfort zones. Avoiding risks is akin to doing nothing.

To pursue your dreams and achieve success, it’s time to step out of that zone.
